Start international student workshop
13.04.2009
This morning the international student workshop 'Political campaigns' started with a briefing by Richard van der Laken, Sybren Kuiper and Anno Fekkes (Vide, responsible for the organization of the workshop). German and Dutch students visual communication from four academies will develop concepts for the future political campaigns in groups of three. What is an effective way to reach the public today and in the future: via posters, via internet or door to door, like Obama did? And how do you visualize the message? With text or with images?
The students focus on three political parties: GroenLinks (Green Left), D66 (Democrates 66) and the VVD (People's Party for Freedom and Democracy). Fleur Graeper (head marketing and communication D66), Jaap de Bruijne (campaign manager GroenLinks) and Boudewijn Revis (head communication / campaign manager VVD) presented their own strategies to the students. Kirsten Verdel, member of Obama's campaign team, gave a lecture about the campaign of Barrack Obama.
On Wednesday the 15th, Stichting Visueel Debat (Foundation Visual Debate) and the Royal Academy of Art Den Haag organized a public debate about the role of the designer in politic assignments, such as political campaigns.
