The 'Haagse mast'

New classics, old moderns

New classics, old moderns

27.06.2010

The lampposts from the internationally acclaimed designers Piet Zwart and Friso Kramer, to be found throughout the city of The Hague, are being replaced by streetlights that have a nostalgic, historic look. The modern lampposts designed by Piet Zwart in the 1920's and those designed by Friso Kramer in the 1960's are making way for quasi classic street lighting. It is remarkable that the ambitious and international city of The Hague has decided to replace Dutch cultural heritage by nostalgic replicas of an old model, called the 'Haagse Mast' from 1830. The aim is to provide all the monumental neighborhoods in The Hague with the classic lamppost.
