National identities and design

Thesis about the relation between national identities and design

10.02.2010

The role of the government increases when dealing with contemporary topics like the healthcare system, the multicultural society, energy and the climate. Within this context, the visibility of the government is an important topic. In a society that is increasingly visually oriented, design can play an important role. Design can make an identity visible and tangible. And can also stimulate a better understanding between the government and the public. Can the identity of a country be made visual through design?

Within the programme of Den Haag Design and Government this research is conducted by Pieter Aarts, during his master study Design Management at EURIB Rotterdam. The results will be published in a thesis in 2010. Pieter Aarts is projectleader at Ontwerpwerk in Den Haag.
