First two weeks in June 2010

The first stand selling chips appeared in the Netherlands around 1900. Soon every city had one. Similarly, Germany has a snack culture that focuses on sausages with sauerkraut, mustard or curry. The sausage culture is divided by region. Bavaria’s speciality is Weisswurst (white sausage), while Berlin’s is Currywurst. Both are made of quality meat, and are controlled by a tight framework of regulations about hygiene and quality. Sausages are even sold with champagne and individual sausage sellers claim they have the best. All in all, an ambitious food culture on the street.

You can try and taste authentic organic German Currywurst at various locations in The Hague in June. Go to Dungelmann Butcher’s, café bijHem, de Haagsche Kluis or Schlemmer for a German taste experience!
